Wanted to post something on the book but …
Wanted to post something on the book but realized that I left it at work. That is interesting because the one time I needed it at work I had left it at home!
Couldn’t believe the new tools we learned about last night. I had already done some blogging before. As I mentioned I had used blogger.com. I really enjoy the concept of blogging. I had a twitter account already but hadn’t really used it much. I see some application for education, but I don’t think that I will use it that frequently. It would be great for letting people know about new books that we got in, or don’t laugh when book covers come in! This is a big issue when the term starts. Often students will get points taken off if they don’t have their books covered. We get free book covers in the library and students love them. When we don’t have any there is pandemonium! The book covers are generally sponsored by some organization (frequently the military) or company. I have some reservations about the commercialism but I think the good outweighs any negatives. Wow I got off topic!
Back to what we did last night- new about blogging and tweeting but had never heard of 5 card flickr. What a great tool! I like using flickr to find pictures for projects but had never heard of this before. There is a picture prompt for the state HSPA language arts tests. This would be a great practice tool. Anyone concerned about the pictures of beer? Maybe there is a way of not accessing those pictures? I did see that there is an educational site within 5 card flickr. I will have to check that out. Any one in my group feel that there is a concern with pictures of beer?
Glogster was another completely new tool for me. This is definitely something that I will share with teachers in my school. So many of them still assign posters as an assessment product. It drives me nuts seeing kids gluing, and cutting and pasting. This will make much more sense. Of course I have to try it out. I left before using it last night. : (
